I came to Cayce Berryman in a bad state. I was so nervous about my upcoming book, on which I had worked so hard, for so long, and I needed another copyedit pass and some desperately needed encouragement. Cayce jumped in immediately and not only made some great catches in the manuscript, but she really “got” the book immediately. That is saying a lot because my book is complex and deals with a lot of history. Cayce was stern when it was called for—there were many inconsistencies and errors, which she corrected—but she also was very positive and supportive. I have worked with copy editors before, but Cayce is head-and-shoulders above what I expected. Every writer deserves an editor of Cayce’s caliber and generosity.
